It’s necessary to X in Italian and Polish: Managing reasons for action – Giovanni Rossi & Jörg Zinken

Recorded 19th December 2011 at Loughborough’s Conversation Analysis Day. The theme for that years meeting was “Asymmetries in Interaction”. Giovanni and Jörg document the grammatical makeup of impersonal deontic declaratives; they explore accounts that get made which articular the reason for the necessity of an action, and how recipients dispute the grounds on which a claim for necessity is based but not their willingness to do what has been claimed.
