Recorded 20th December 2010 at Loughborough’s Conversation Analysis Day. The theme for that years meeting was “Conversation Analysis at Work and Home” Carrie’s talk explores mental states as sequential phenomena, and examines how the terms ‘want’ and ‘need’ gain their sense not as intrinsic features of the projected action but as something which is necessary due to the sequential position.
