Recorded 17th December 2012. In their talk, Tom presents on intersubjectivity around contextual understanding (ie. how participants agree on what they are talking about). He focuses on questions about epistemic access eg. “do you know X?”, exploring the sequential positions of these types of questions. Tom notes that these checks can be both prospective and retrospective, they can respond to some trouble display, and that the sequential position is indexed by the very nature of these checks.
