Recorded 17th December 2012. In her talk, Alexandra explores directives in family mealtimes (taking a loose definition of directives). She provides two explanations of the format that a directive may take, namely around entitlement and contingency. The argument centres around the locally occasioned nature that directives have — that deploying certain interactional resources (e.g. interruption) warrants certain directive formats.
