Recorded 16th December 2009 at Loughborough’s Conversation Analysis Day. The theme for that years meeting was “CA and Everyday Lives”. In this talk, Laura presents family meal time sequences where children express some pain or discomfort and shows how parents respond to these sequences. She argues that in these sequences, we see how children learn to talk about their body and how they ought respond to pain and discomfort, and discusses why this is particularly salient for children with chronic conditions.
